Alan has just taken his first buying trip of the year, so Spring must be on it's way. Keep an eye out as we will be bringing in lots of fresh new stock from France, Holland & Italy this month, as well as from uk growers.
Greenfingers was formed in 1980 and initially undertook Landscaping and Garden maintenance.
1981 - Shop premises were opened in Kenilworth which as well as retailing gave a base for the landscaping activities . The outdoor area was small but historic as it was part of the stable yard for the Kenilworth workhouse. By the end of 1981 we had also acquired about 1/3 acre of further land behind and could expand to offer the full range of goods and plants found at the time in garden centres plus a wide range of landscape materials.
1982 - The land here at Claverdon was purchased and is still our current base . On this site from humble beginnings we developed the wholesale nursery supplying garden centres throughout the UK . We specialised in growing Herbaceous perennials and alpines. This range has widened through the years.
End of 1980’s - By the end of the 1980’s we had divested our interests in the site at Kenilworth and also the landscaping and from this point became focussed on being a wholesale supplier.
1990’s - During the 1990’s the business grew dramatically increasing production and also stocking and distributing plants grown by other nurseries.
1996 - This year we forged an agreement with Gova BV in Holland to stock and distribute their Bay Trees throughout the UK . Their 55 acres of production of Bay Trees is truly impressive and we are pleased to still be working with them to this day.
1998 - During the 1990’s we exhibited at most of the trade shows including Glee, Four Oaks, SWRG , Grow Shows, Southern Growers etc. These events were a great opportunity to meet both existing and new customers and to show the plants we offered . Our stands always created an impression and in 1998 we received the trophy for the best stand at Glee.
1999 - In 1999 we entered and were a finalist in the Grower of the year awards.
2000 - March 2000 we started the Cash & Carry which has continued to grow every year since 2007 In August 2007 we stopped offering a traditional A-Z delivered service to garden centres and since then have focussed on developing the Cash & Carry trying to offer the best plants to our customers backed up by a great service . All our own production is for the Cash & Carry and this is supplemented by plants from nurseries from throughout the UK , Holland , Italy , France & Belgium and occasionally other countries.
2008 - September 2008 saw us hold our first Dutch Style Sample Fair . This proved a huge success and we now hold 3 per year in February , March and September. At the end of 2008 we purchased approx 10 acres of land nearby where we hope in the near future to relocate into a new purpose built Cash & Carry and nursery.
2010 - Well that is now. We plan to continue offering our customers the widest range of quality plants at competitive prices with a great service and innovative ways to overcome recessionary and economic pressures . We have 3 Sample Fairs planned for February , March and September . 2010 also marks the 30th anniversary of the founding of Greenfingers as a company and also it is 10 years since the start of the Cash & Carry .
